Job Coach/ Employment Supports Professional

Position Summary:  Job Coach provides job training, counseling, and support for individuals receiving services at volunteering sites with our community partners and their places of employment in the community.  The JC will follow the plan of services and will model appropriate skills, behaviors, and attitudes that support the individuals’ ability to secure and maintain employment in the community, and thus their independence.

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach, assist, and support individuals in their jobs through a variety of techniques including demonstration of work/tasks, modeling, counseling, observation, and discussion.
  • Assist individuals with the development and exploration of career interests and opportunities to volunteer and learn in the community to support the individuals’ career ambitions.
  • Support and observe the individuals in the areas of Job Readiness Training, Job Coaching, Travel Training, Stress Management, Social and Interpersonal skill building, Vocational Skill Building and assessments, Situational Job Assessments, Job Related Discovery and Career and Vocational planning which would lead to integrated employment.
  • Travel training or routing new workers from home to job site.
  • Develop excellent relationships with individuals, their families, the agency’s community partners, and current/ potential employers.
  • Documentation of all services rendered in accordance with all OPWDD, City/State/Federal guidelines and policies and maintenance of person-specific program files in compliance with same.
  • Attend all mandatory Innovations in Employment OPWDD Trainings.

 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid N.Y. State Driver’s License required.
  • Background working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with program participants, families, staff and community agencies.
